Best of Belize – our 15 days journey:

Stop #1 – San Pedro / Ambergris Caye
Our finds in Ambergris Caye:
- Lazy Croc BBQ (restaurant and bar)): north of the bridge (so in a very quiet area); this Southern Kitchen joint served pulled pork / wings / ribs to die for (better than anything we tried so far in the US); quite an unusual environment (on the edge of a pond with crocs); however, there are rumours it is closed by now (would be a shame)…. probably worth to check the latest before heading to the north;
Stop #2 – San Ignacio / Cayo
Our finds in Cayo / around San Ignacio:
- Gaia Riverlodge (lodge): the best place we stayed in on our trip; very fine cabanas, good service, decent (albeit pricey) food, terrace with an impressive view over the creek & valley… but the best of all is the waterfall at the bottom of the valley – with a natural pool to swim in and an island in the river with hammocks, lounge chairs, etc.; nearly too good to be true;
Stop #4 – a trip to Tikkal (Guatemala)
Stop #5 – Placencia, Southern Belize
Our finds in Placencia:
- Maya Beach (bistro): we had a lot of good food in Belize (somewhat surprisingly actually), but Maya Beach was the best, by far; the “cacao chicken” and the “slow cooked country (pork) rib” were from a different world;
- Mojo Lounge & Restaurant (restaurant and bar): in the first floor of a house in central Placencia, with a tiny balcony; a social and slightly crazy owner (Erin – thank you for plenty of birthday shots for Sissi’s little bro); worth visiting for amazing food;
